Mercato

There is a good sized street market on our block. It has everything from curtains to fresh pesto in bulk. It is convenient to go downstairs and pick up a mezzo-chilo (about a pound) of tomatoes, a loaf of good bread and fresh mozzarella.

Looking back up to the apartment on my way to the market...

All kinds of fish and produce at the market.

At first, I was shy about taking pictures, worrying that it might be considered rude or tacky. I quickly learned what hams Itlians are! There's a reason the Italians invented paparazzi!

We can also buy household items at the market. Especially handy for toilet paper.

The sweet and gelato shops are not at the market, but just around the corner. In our efforts to become more "Italian" we make sure to spend plenty of time at these shops.
